Project: Do Me! {Update}

UPDATE: 2/28/2011

As we head into March (or should I say march into March? hardy-har-har...) - and into a new week - it's time for a Project Do Me! update. Here's last week's post.

Daily:
Screw the book. Let's work on getting enough SLEEP! 8 hours a day
Finish all paperwork for next semester
Keep working on incorporating Coconut Oil into my daily diet (did not accomplish that one last week)

This Week:
How bout that mundane paperwork? Didn't keep caught up last week - now I have to finish it all this week
Vacuum Mondays and Fridays
Continue to work on house organization

This Month:
Bestie weekend set for 4/2 - that'll do
Re-organize closet
Donate clothes that have not been worn in the past 6 months

This Year:
Find a "home" for everything in the house

So how are your projects coming along? If you are participating - don't forget to link up at Travel Babbles!

I Hate Trade Deadline Day.

End of Day Update:
Well... despite losing Scottie and Sami - we can't complain too much. We got what we needed in return so we might actually squeeze by without an owner until the end of the season. Perhaps Scottie will re-sign here over the summer :(

I didn't expect any blockbusters - and I think its safe to say NO ONE in the league made any blockbuster moves. So now we head into the final race for the post-season with (most of) our team in tact. I'll do a tribute to The Ones We Lost On Deadline Day at work in the morning - if my intakes don't show up :)

NOON UPDATE:
The Ledge has been successfully located. Currently trying to keep my fellow Yotes fans from jumping.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hate trade deadline day.

It was all fun and games until the first time my team traded my favorite player.

I remember that day all too well. I even remember what I was WEARING. Trade deadline day has since been the anniversary of my first hockey heartbreak via trade.

I was having a blast - watching all the trades being made between all the other teams & a few not so shocking moves with the Coyotes. It was my first trade deadline day since I'd gotten season tickets and really started following every move the Coyotes made. I remember sitting at work all morning hitting refresh on the TSN trade tracker page. Then I found a link to the audio coverage - and I remember the feeling of complete and utter shock I experienced when that dreadful trade was announced. I heard it. From Panger. He was supposed to be one of us... How dare he be the one to break such horrible news to me???

Daniel Carcillo to Philadelphia for Scottie Upshall and a 2nd round draft pick.

What....? Wait... WHAT?!?! No... they couldn't... that's a mistake right? He meant someone else... NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Sadly - I have to admit that the tears started streaming down my face. I was literally heartbroken. I remember calling and texting all my hockey friends - posting the sad news on Facebook.... (this was prior to my Twitter days).

I spent the remainder of that season out on my ledge over it. And I hated Scottie Upshall. Passionately. Don Maloney wasn't my favorite person either.

I am happy to say however that my hatred for Scottie no longer exists in any form - and that I've now learned how to handle trade deadline day more appropriately - and that Don Maloney traded Danny because he had the best interests of the team in mind....

But that doesn't mean that I have to LIKE it.

I fell asleep with butterflies in my stomach last night...
With worries of trades to come running through my head...

"Who is trade bait this year...? Maybe we just won't make any trades... We don't have any money to play around with... right? What if they trade Kyle? No - I can't think like that... Yandle's untouchable right? I may head back out onto that ledge if they trade Turris or Yandle... I don't want to spend another end of the season out on a ledge. It involves too much drinking..."

Check back after twelve for updates on that ledge thing...

The Weekend Wander...

Friday, February 25, 2011

There's really not much to be said about that game...

So I won't even bother.

But I WILL tell you that I got a haircut today and I LOVE IT! I'll also tell you that I had the BEST Sake EVER at the sushi bar tonight.

AND... this:

Just a quick update on the Coyotes ownership situation...

Just in case you missed it, John Shannon of sportsnet.ca sent this out last night via his Twitter account:
"In ownership news - indications that Glendale Bond deal should close imminently, which is primary hurdle... Hulsizer should close in 7-10 days."
John doesn't usually miss a beat so I fully expect a deal to be done within 7-10 days. Maybe with it that close to being done, Don Maloney will get the green light to make some moves at the trade deadline.

Happy Friday everyone!

Project: Do Me!

Alright folks - I've decided to take on my biggest obstacle - myself! With some help from you, dear readers. To learn more about Project: Do Me! Click on over to Travel Babbles and read her post about it. I'll add my own linky tools at the bottom of this post so that you can link up and we can keep track of each other.

I'm committing to this on both of my blogs so you can all help keep me in line! The premise is simple: spend a week figuring out small and attainable goals that will aid in your happiness. These goals should be measurable, specific - and they should be proactive. So here we go...

Daily:
1. Read at least one chapter in my book
2. Pay better attention to my skin care regime
(for me that means remembering to wash and moisturize my face both morning and night)
3. Remember to incorporate 3 tablespoons of coconut oil into my daily diet

This week:
1. Post at least 5 blog entries
2. Complete financial aid and other paperwork for next semester
3. Don't get behind on the mundane daily paperwork at work

This month:
1. Re-organize my closet and either put away or get rid of the clothes lying around my room in baskets
(part of my 40 by 40
2. Find the perfect painting to go over the TV in the living room
3. Spend an entire weekend with my bestie

This year:
1. Find a "place" for everything in my house.
(I just bought and moved into my first house - it's still not entirely organized yet.)

Alright - get your lists ready and don't forget to link up!

Stylin' & Profilin'

Annoying... Opinionated... Sassy... Spoiled... Determined... Hot-headed...

Those are all words I would've used to describe my blogging endeavors. But the lovely Mrs. K. sees my blogging differently. What a surprise! Thank you Mrs. K. for nominating me for a Stylish Blogger award - it's truly an honor from someone as Stylish as yourself!

The rules of this little blogging game say that now I have to share 7 things about myself that you don't know.... hmmmmm...
Here goes!

  1. I hate - nay, hate isn't even a strong enough word - I loathe cilantro. But this is not your normal "I hate that food" type of thing. If you ever hear me referring to the "Devil Weed" - I'm talking about cilantro. If I could burn up every bit of that vile weed on the planet I would, simply to eliminate the chance of it ever getting in my food by some off chance. They say you either love it or hate it and that some people get this horrible flavor from it. I am one of said people. I can't stomach the stuff. If you even put a tiny twinge of it in something I am eating I can detect it and will get sick. It's horrible, raunchy disgusting stuff.
  2. I am always late. ALWAYS. I have become notorious for it.
  3. Prior to my first Phoenix Coyotes hockey game - I wasn't a sports fan. I still follow no other sports teams - period. I hate baseball - I can tolerate football but only when forced. I don't even watch the Super Bowl. I say "Go Dawgs" because I was born and raised in the great state of Georgia and were they to find out that I do NOT cheer for the Georgia Bulldogs they may renounce my birth certificate and I'd be dead to them - at least in my family ;)
  4. I have far too many purses.
  5. I also have too many dogs.
  6. My hockey friends are the best people on earth.
  7. I have no wisdom teeth - as in they just aren't there. (explains a lot, doesn't it? ;) I'll never have to worry about having them pulled - I never had any to begin with.
Alrighty! So now you know some strange things about me... It's time for me to nominate a few of my favorites for the Stylish Blogger award!

Hand me the envelope please.... Scenic Glory, Fishnets & Hip Checks, Boobies, Babies & A Blog,  hipchecks and MaMa Z

City Council Meeting Update

Hi folks! Here's an update from today's City Council Meeting in Glendale...

The purpose of the meeting was to give the Glendale City Manager (Ed Beasely) the go-ahead to finalize the new Arena Management and Use Agreement (AMULA) and thus proceed with the sale of the team to Mr. Hulsizer. There is much concern about the use of taxpayer money to fund the purchase and/or run the team - which is simply not what is happening here. I'll try to explain this situation as simply as I can...

The City is selling bonds in order to acquire the 100 million dollars it will take to purchase the parking rights from the Coyotes. The original AMULA granted parking and arena management rights to the Coyotes. Currently, we are not charged for parking at any arena event. This will no longer be the case once the team is under new ownership. The City will begin collecting parking fees - this money will be used to repay the money they will spend to purchase those parking rights. Currently the cost to manage the Arena is roughly 17 million a year. If the team leaves, the city will still be on the hook for that 17 million - but will be minus their major money making tenant. 10,000 people coming to Westgate for 42 games per year is better than none. 18,000 is better... but we'll work on that part later.

Should the team flee - there will be no foot traffic to pay those fees. There will be an empty eye sore in the middle of Westgate that will THEN cost the taxpayers 17 million a year to run. Any money will be GENERATED from the Coyotes. No Coyotes, no money. THEN Goldwater should have a problem with the city. Funding coming from revenue streams created by the Coyotes and their fans = no extra cost to the residents of Glendale vs 17 million guaranteed to come out of the taxpayers pockets yearly. Do the math...

Today the City Council approved a motion allowing 10 million of the 25 million that the City gave the NHL last year as insurance to be transferred into an escrow account and used as Arena Management money - should it be needed. It is not anticipated that this money will be needed - as they will be generating money from the parking fees and the voluntary CFD. The money will remain in the escrow account accumulating interest - thus making the City MORE money. That 25 million that was given to the NHL to cover "losses" for this season? It's still there. And then some. It's been collecting interest as well. So there's proof that all parties are doing everything within their power to make this work. Go through and read the documents. What the City and Hulsizer are trying to do is actually help the taxpayers and save them from paying unnecessary costs on an empty arena for the next who knows how many years.

Sorry for the Short Notice! City Council Meeting Today!

Hi all!

I apologize for the short notice - but we just received word at the game last night that there will be a Glendale City Council meeting today at 1:00pm regarding an update on the Coyotes sale to Matthew Hulsizer. The meeting is open to the public and could very well be one of the final steps in finalizing the sale of the team to Mr. Hulsizer!

We're certain those in opposition will be present so we need as many Coyotes supporters out there in Coyotes gear as possible! I know the 1:00pm start time and short notice will make it hard on people to be present, but if you are able we'd really appreciate you being there, in Coyotes gear, to show your support. Here's more information on the meeting:

Where: Glendale City Council Chambers
5850 W. Glendale Ave.
Glendale, AZ 85301
When: 1:00pm Tuesday February 15, 2010

The meeting will begin promptly at 1:00pm so please be on time. I will be there in my Kyle Turris jersey - so please stop and say hello if you spot me. I know this is short notice - but it would be great to see as many people as possible there! I know the team would appreciate our support, as always!

Love Letters....

Today is Monday - which means its Love Letters Day over at FTLOB

Photobucket

Quite fitting for Valentine's Day, don't you think? If you're like me and don't have a Valentine to swoon over for today - I hope you've found a way to make this a special day anyway. Treat yourself to a pedicure, a massage, whatever makes you feel good! If you can't love yourself - you're not going to be able to love anyone else either!

But I don't look at this day as just a day to celebrate the "significant other" in my life - whether I have one from year to year or not (and this year I do not) - it's a day to celebrate all of those who matter to me. It's a day to celebrate my family, my friends and all of the people who enrich my life day in and day out.

So tonight I intend to spend my evening at my favorite place - Jobing.com Arena - watching my favorite team with one of my favorite girls. Hopefully our boys can get us a win tonight! Today's Valentine's Day post is for my beautiful niece Kaitlyn. She will share with you the only 4 love letters that matter today...

All of these pictures were taken by my sister Jennifer - at their beautiful home in California.
Words can't quite express my love for Kaitlyn - She is my Sunshine!

Be Joyful!

Today dear friends, FTLOB is co-hosting Joyful Moments, so I thought it might be a great opportunity for me to spread some joy and share with you what brings ME joy.

Seeing as this is a hockey blog - I'm sure you can guess one thing that brings me joy... My hockey team

I love to share them with my friends, I love introducing people to the sport. I love that when I bring new people to a hockey game, they are never disappointed. I love Jobing.com Arena - the home of the Phoenix Coyotes. I love my hockey family and I love it that my dad is FINALLY coming around and at least watching the games with me on TV. (for more info on that last part see the #ShitMyDadSaysDuringHockey tweets on my Twitter page. He's HILARIOUS!)

My dogs bring me joy... even when they chew on my shoes!

Nature brings me joy.
I haven't gone for a good hike in quite a while - here's one of my favorite hiking spots:

Bridal Veil Falls - Provo Canyon, Utah

Uplifting comments and my followers bring me joy as well. I love meeting people from all over the world, hockey fans and non-hockey fans alike. Enjoy your weekend friends! Go Yotes!

Thirsty Thursday!

Today is Thirsty Thursday over at FTLOB so I thought I'd share with you my favorite pre-Coyotes home game tailgate drink! It's simple, its delicious & it doesn't require a lot of mixing.... It's a "Diet" drink (or as "Diet" as alcohol can be I suppose). Here it is:

The "Skinny" Palmer
- 1 Part Sweet Tea Vodka
-1 Part Diet/No-Sugar Lemonade
-Muddled Strawberries
-Sprig of Fresh Mint

My personal favorite Sweet Tea Vodka is the Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka - try the Peach flavor for an extra splash of Southern flare. In lieu of the muddled strawberries - try strawberry or raspberry lemonade. The possibilities are endless!

Enjoy!

Could the Saga of the Coyotes Ownership be Coming to an End???

As I woke up this morning, rubbing the sleep from my eyes - I happened to log into my Twitter account and see a tweet from my good friend Travis over at Five For Howling stating that the city of Glendale was scheduled to sell it's illusive bonds that everyone has been so up in arms about recently. So I thought I'd check it out...

According to Moody's  the City of Glendale has issued bonds to be sold this coming Tuesday. Moody's is a financial research company that gives governments and companies credit ratings - and they also rate bond sales. The sale is structured as two different bond issues - one for 107 million dollars and rated as an A1 - the other for 9 million - it is also rated as an A1. To learn all about what that means you can follow this link to see the information. Registration is required to view the document.

What an "A1" rating means in simple terms is that the rating is slightly greater that a "quality" rating. The rating structure starts at "AAA" being the highest quality and goes down to a "D" meaning that the credit rating indicates default. This is not a bad credit rating for the city - even with the recent economy - they remain at "Quality" status. It shows that the city has credit stability but that there is still some risk involved in their ability to repay their debt should the economy not improve.

It is stated in the Moody report that the bonds are being sold to purchase parking rights at Jobing.com Arena from the Coyotes. For those of you who have been following this issue closely - you also know that the money they will get from selling those bonds will be given to Matthew Hulsizer and used to purchase the team. So... I don't want to jump the gun on this one but... could this ownership situation finally becoming to a positive end for us? Stay tuned.... That certainly would make a wonderful Valentine's Day present!
